RACE COURSES- 2016

As in 2015, there will be two courses in the Middle Creek Flyathlon.  The short course will run out-and-back along Middle Creek and East Middle Creek.  The long course falls within the same watershed, with an early Indian Creek loop followed by the short course in its entirety.  Here are some pertinent details about each course…

Short course:

Course Type:  Out and back
Distance:  7.0 miles total
Elevation Gain:  Approximately 1000 feet
Fish present:  Brook, brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout
Course Description:  The short course follows Middle Creek, then East Middle Creek to the top of Cow Skull Hill.  Check in at the checkpoint, kiss the cow skull, get some whiskey from Matthew, and then head for home…

Long course:

Course type:  Early Loop followed by Out and Back
Distance:  12 miles total
Elevation Gain:  Approximately 2500 feet
Fish present:  Brook, brown, rainbow, and cutthroat trout
Course Description:  The long course hucks an immediate right and climbs a hill before descending into the Indian Creek drainage.  Once you cross, follow flagging along the south side of this brookie-infested brook for about a mile before crossing it again.  Climb steeply up WTF Hill to the checkpoint.  Cruise along the Indian Creek bypass trail back to square one, where you can drink some water (or a beer) before heading out to complete the short course.  Fish wherever you wish, but remember, the short coursers will have already fished the short course by the time you get there…  Hmmmm…
